If you can offer an insight into your practice, it might be through a video show-and-tell, or in-person for a day or two. Alternatively you might really value some assistance setting up an exhibition and some invigilation support, filming of rehearsals or some digital asset creation and social media promotion.

You can watch the short video here and if you think you might be able to be able to offer some experience or need some help, email Talent Accelerator here

OPPORTUNITY: Let's Create Together Plate Workshop | 13 April

  • Eastbourne Studio Pottery (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

A message from Claire who is co-ordinating this opportunity:

We have been awarded funding by the Arts Council and East Sussex Arts Partnership to invite sixty local groups to take part in free, artist-led pottery workshops and we would like to offer 6 places on the 13 April workshop to members of The Makers Directory.

We'll be making plates using a whole variety of techniques. No previous knowledge of working with clay is necessary as all the techniques will be broken down into easily accessible steps. The finished plates will be exhibited at Towner in July 2024, where all the workshop participants will be invited to a special tea party at the close of the exhibition. Here everyone will be able to take their plate home or do a swap with another maker!

The project links up with the Turner prize exhibition at Towner and Eastbourne Alive's programme of wider public engagement and celebrates our community and aims to promote well-being that can be fostered by taking part in creative activity. The invited groups span community, arts, health and education focused organisations based in Eastbourne together with independent businesses local to the pottery. we are looking for six people to sign up for one of the workshops between November 2023 and the end of May 2024. Most workshops will take place during the day on Saturday or Sunday.

Would you like to take part? If you are interested please email Corina to bagsie one of the places

OPPORTUNITY: Sussex Day Fair at Parham | 16 June

A message from the organiser:
”We are planning to hold a special event at
Parham on Friday 16 June. As I am sure you will be aware, the 16th June is Sussex Day and as part of this we are planning to bring together a small number of distinctive local businesses from across the county. Our intention is to create a small fair, highlighting the produce, art, and crafts of the local area. The afternoon will be a point of interest in our events calendar and will enable exhibitors from the local area to sell direct to our visitors on the day. We will have space for between 25 and 30 exhibitors and they will all be located within the Pleasure Grounds at Parham House.

Parham will provide the pitch for the stalls for a one-off fee of £50 for the afternoon. Exhibitors would be responsible for supplying their own gazebos, tables, or other display materials. We would be very pleased to answer any questions they might have, or to arrange a telephone call to speak to them directly.”

Email us at The Makers Directory and we can send you further details

A CELEBRATION OF MAKING | Artwave 2023

We are staging an actual, living showcase of The Makers Directory talent on Lewes High Street during this year’s Artwave Festival, and want you to be part of it!

Many of The Makers Directory community share their skills as part of their working practice - run workshops, one-to-one tuition, offer a repair service - and this year we want to celebrate this incredible offering in an interactive and immersive way.

We have booked Gallery 207 on Lewes High Street from 1 - 26 September as part of Artwave Festival and intend - with your help - to schedule a diverse programme of workshops, taster sessions, talks and demonstrations. We want to enable as many of you as possible to take part so you can book the space to showcase your practice and work.

We are really excited to find out what you would like to share and hope there will be a mix of paid-for, ticketed and free to attend events - this will be up to you. Anything is possible - ring making, basketry, creative darning, printing, papier mache, carving, floral art etc – surprise us!

Gallery 207 will also act as a hub for The Makers Directory throughout Artwave as we want to use this opportunity to promote and celebrate everyone within the Directory, for we feel that the community’s strength is undeniably in its breadth and depth!

We are working out the finer details, but are inviting free registrations of interest at this stage so that we can put together the most interesting programme possible. There is a registration form and more information here
