STUDIO SAFARIS: A special Sussex Craft Week event

Jump aboard a Studio Safari and join an exclusive tour of top Sussex makers at work in stunning rural studios. 

These two specially curated safaris for Sussex Craft Week offer unique opportunities to meet an all-star cast of artists and gain insight into their working practice. There are multiple studio visits on each tour, a knowledgable guide, and a stop for lunch. 

Ditchling & Countryside: Metal•Stone•Fibre•Wood
14 June | 10am - 5pm

The morning includes a visit to two rural studios. Firstly jeweller, Jinks McGrath’s beautiful barn and then onto the workshop of the award winning stone carver, Tom Sargent.
The afternoon will be spent in the craft village of Ditchling with studio visits to two artists - wood and mixed media artist, Laurence Moranchini, then basketmaker and fibre artist, Julie Rignell whose latest work is on show at Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft.

This exclusive trip will leave from Artelium Vineyard, near Plumpton Station, on Saturday 14 June: 10am - 5pm

Lewes & Countryside: Wood•Metal•Stone
14 June | 10am - 5pm

The first stop will be to visit the celebrated woodcarving duo, Ash & Plumb in their beautiful former dairy, where they will welcome in visitors for the very first time. Then time for an early lunch at the riverside Marine Workshops in Newhaven and an opportunity to see the exhibition 'Undoings’.
In the afternoon, the safari heads to the picturesque village of Glynde to meet blacksmith Thomas Gonthar working in his historic forge and finally to the yard of the celebrated stone carver and sculptor, Guy Stevens.

This exclusive trips will leave from Charleston Lewes, near Lewes Station, on Saturday 14 June: 10am - 5pm

ADULT WORKSHOP: Sculpting in Clay for Beginners | Sat 14 or Sat 21 June
Enjoy exploring shapes in clay and making a simple sculpted figure. A day of sculpting for beginners in clay with a life model, one pose, in a beautiful barn with sculptor Silvia MacRae Brown. All welcome!

One day courses: Sat 14 or Sat 21 June from 10am - 4pm
£90, plus £20 for materials
Location: Friston Barn, Friston, Seaford, East Sussex BN20 4AL
