After completing a BA Hons degree in Fine Art Painting followed by a Master's Degree in Printmaking, I have pursued a career as an artist over the last forty years. I use the physical landscape and natural forms around me as a starting point for my work but then change and manipulate my sketchbook images to create a more personal response. Working simultaneously through paint, printmaking and drawing, a body of work is created on a theme.
I love exploring an idea through a variety of mediums as this enables me to play with varied textures, colours and marks which then feed off each other in the developing pieces. I rarely know exactly how a piece is going to turn out in the final version and with painting in particular I may spend months repainting a piece until I am happy with the final image. Printmaking by nature is more planned but even here I try to retain an element of surprise and fluidity so that the image doesn't become too contrived and predictable.
I am currently Chair of Chalk Gallery Lewes and also a regular artist at West End Gallery in Worthing, Uno Gallery in Seaford and Strand Quay Gallery in Rye.
